Welcome Back!
We checked out of the hotel at Bryce and headed towards Hurricane, UT. While we were enroute we had to make a grocery stop and we were also in search of a MUCH-needed carwash. There was not a bug in Nebraska, Colorado or Utah that we had not hit and had stuck to the front of Gloria (she's my car).
But first we were going to stop at Cedar Breaks National Monument. Since we had such a great experience at the Colorado National Monument, we wanted to check this one out too. As with everything else we have seen in this part of the country it was insanely amazing. This place had some crazy elevations and some sick views!
We took a leisurely walk along a paved path there for about a mile and a half or so. They had tons of wildflowers, and it was just so peaceful. We then stopped at several overlooks along the scenic drive. All in all, we spent about 90 minutes, maybe two hours there before heading back to highway to get to Cedar City. It was a lovely park, and I am glad we stopped.
With the fantastic ventures that we had at both this place and Colorado National Monument, we will be sure to take the time to stop at more national monuments and other locations run by the National Park Service that aren't necessarily a national park. Goodness knows there are a gazillion of them.
I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but we are not eating at any restaurant meals on this trip. We brought all of our food that I prepared from home or are preparing it at the hotels. We pack lunches to take with us to eat in the car or as picnic lunches, eat breakfast in the room or take advantage of the hotel provided breakfasts. Living on the truck has prepared us well for this! We choose to do this for dietary reasons, as well as the financial benefits. Neither of us are "foodies" so we prefer to use our money for experiences rather than spending it on food when it's just not that important to us. Plus, my cooking is better anyway! 😄
We needed to stop at Walmart to restock some grocery items. Then we sought out the much-needed carwash. I think we got better gas mileage after the car wash because Gloria was lighter having all the bug guts washed off. I absolutely could not believe the bugs that she was carrying around. Disgraceful.
We checked in to the hotel early and spent some time reorganizing the car, doing some laundry and just getting things back in order. The next few days were going to be busy and long, so we took advantage of the free time to get set up for the exciting days ahead. We then had an early dinner, and chilled out watching some Josh Gates, Expedition Unknown.
By the way we stayed in a really nice,new-ish hotel in Hurricane, Utah. Here we learned that it was pronounced "her- i - kin" not "hurr-i-cane" like you would think. It's madness.
Tomorrow...finally we get to Zion.
